By Train

- First Capital Connect operate frequent direct trains to Bedford from several London stations including St. Pancras International, London Blackfriars and London Bridge. Direct trains also run regularly from Brighton, Gatwick and Luton Airports, Croydon and St. Albans.

- East Midlands Trains operate fast services to Bedford from St. Pancras International, Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby, Market Harborough, Leicester, Loughborough and Nottingham with connections from Derby, Sheffield and Lincoln.- London Midland Connections from Birmingham, Coventry, Hemel Hempstead, Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes, Rugby and Watford can be made using services from Bletchley to Bedford.

- The Marston Vale Line provides direct services from Bletchley into Bedford and from Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes with just one change at Bletchley.

- Bedford Mainline Station is a 10 minute walk from the town centre and is well signposted.

- Ask for Bedford PLUSBUS when buying a train ticket to include local bus travel.

By Car

Arriving from the north or south there are excellent links to Bedford from the M1, A1 and the A6. Travelling from the east or west the A421 and A428 provide easy access to the town. Click Google Maps to see how to get here

By Bus

Local bus services operate directly to Bedford from Ampthill, Biggleswade, Sandy, Cranfield, Flitwick, Hitchin, Luton, Northampton, and Rushden. The Stagecoach X5 service runs up to every half hour, seven days a week, direct to Bedford from Oxford, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, St. Neots, Bicester and Buckingham. By Coach

National Express operate direct services to Bedford from several major towns and cities including Birmingham, Coventry, Leeds, Liverpool, Southend, Southport and York and other destinations via Milton Keynes Coachway linked to Bedford via the half hourly Stagecoach X5 (25 min journey). Coaches are welcome in Bedford and free coach parking is available at several town centre locations.  Click on the buses link above for timetables and maps for more information.



Bedford can be reached by National Cycle Route 51 (Sustrans) which passes through the centre of the town. Route 51 currently runs from Sandy in the east to Oxford in the west.  The section from Sandy to Bedford is completely traffic-free. Cycling is not permitted in the pedestrian area of the town, there are cycle bays at key gateway points where cycles can be secured or cyclists are welcome to proceed on foot pushing their bikes.  Click here for information on cycling routes and maps.


By Air

London Luton Airport is approximately 20 miles away with fast frequent trains Luton Parkway and shuttle bus to the airport. Direct trains operate to London Gatwick Airport also. Connections to and from London Heathrow via London Underground to St Pancras Station.
