Business Improvement District

A Business Improvement District, or BID for short, operates across Bedford Town Centre.  The Business Improvement District began in 2005 following a vote in favour of a BID by town centre businesses.  BIDs last for a maximum of five years after which time a further vote must be held.

The most recent vote was held in 2014.  A majority of the businesses voted in favour of continuing the BID which now operates from April 2015 to March 2020.

An independent company, The Bedford BID Company, is responsible for running the Business Improvement District projects and services.  More information is available from The Bedford BID Company website.

Larger Town Centre businesses must pay a Business Improvement District Levy of 2 pence for each £1 of the rateable value of the property.  The Levy is collected by Bedford Borough Council and a Levy Notice is sent to each business once a year requesting payment.  The funds collected are used by the Bedford BID Company to promote the town centre and its businesses.

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions about Bedford town centre BID for more information.
