Possible Extension of the Alcohol Free Zone

This consultation seeks views about the recommendation to extend
the Alcohol Consumption in Designated Public Places Order (Alcohol
Free Zone) along De Parys Avenue, Bedford from the Broadway up to
and including Burnaby Road.
Bedford Borough Council is to consider a
recommendation that the necessary Order be made to create an
Alcohol Free Zone in the stretch of De Parys Avenue, Bedford,
between its junctions with the Broadway and Burnaby Road (as well
as Burnaby Road itself). It is currently planned that the
recommendation will be considered at a Full Council meeting on the
15th October 2014. The recommendation is from The
Borough General Licensing Committee. For more information please
Within an Alcohol Free Zone it is an offence
to continue to drink alcohol when warned to stop by a Police
Constable. The Police also have powers to confiscate alcohol
from those committing this offence. The Police do not
have these powers outside of the Zone.
A large area of central Bedford has already
been designated an Alcohol Free Zone by a previous Order. .
