2018 Gambling Consultation

Consultation on Statement of Gambling Licensing Principles

The Council has a legal duty to have a Statement of Gambling Licensing Principles in respect of applications it receives for Gambling Permissions such as betting shops, bingo halls, arcades, fruit machines etc., in a range of premises. It must review its statement at least every three years.

We are consulting on our next draft statement of principles which is to be published by January 2019.

Alongside the Statement of Principles, we are producing a 'Local Area Profile' for specific considerations at individual locations when we consider applications for premises to be licensed for certain types of gambling.

We are now seeking your views / comments which will need to be related to one or more of the licensing objectives under the Gambling Act 2005;

  • Preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime.

  • Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way.

  • Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling

If you have a view / comments on what should be included in either the Statement of Principles or the proposed Local Area Profile you can let us know via one of the following methods:

  • A brief response form
  • by email to licensing@bedford.gov.uk
  • by post to Keith Simmons, Chief Officer for Democratic & Registration Services, Bedford Borough Council, Borough Hall, Cauldwell Street, Bedford, MK42 9AP
