Property Maintenance and Sustainability

Regular property maintenance makes sound economic sense as well as cultivating a sense of pride in our local community.  Regular maintenance can limit the need for more expensive repairs at a later date. For example, regular cleaning of gutters and drains will be much cheaper than dealing with a serious outbreak of dry rot in a timber roof structure following neglect.

To assist you with the maintenance of your property we have brought together a short guide, 'Maintenance Checklist', (download here) covering :

  • Rainwater Goods and Drains
  • Doors and Windows
  • Roofs
  • Inside the Building
  • Services
  • Health & Safety

Specific Maintenance Guides covering the following are available to download below:

In November 2010 the Historic Environment Team, Planning Services, Bedford Borough Council published the Bedford Conservation Area 'Maintaining and Repairing Your Historic Building' guide - to download a copy of this document click on the 'Related Links' on the right hand side of this page.
