Elstow Abbey

Elstow church Reparation

Elstow Abbey was founded in 1078 by the Countess Judith, niece of William the Conqueror. It became one of the richest of the 106 Benedictine nunneries existing at the time and in it’s hey-day and was almost twice its current size in the fourteenth century. Thousands of Pilgrims and the general public visit this site each year.

Working closely with the Elstow Church Caretaker we assist in tidying the general area and re planting flowers on some graves which are no longer maintained. We also help to look after an area of the grounds which will be landscaped to create a calming and peaceful area for people visiting the church to enjoy.

Tasks may include:

·         Maintaining the grave yard

·         Removing moss from the head stones

·         General gardening around site

·         Cutting back over growth around Abbey ruines

·         Clearing stone road of weeds in prepartion for work to start on build/repair or ruiens

ECM Outcomes: Enjoy & achieve, Making a positive contribution, and being healthy.
