Older Person's Accomodation Strategy

All local authorities with strategic housing responsibilities need to plan to meet the housing needs of

local residents. The Draft Older Persons’ Accommodation Strategy sets out the Council’s aims in

meeting the accommodation needs of older people in the Borough.

The Council has a duty under the Care Act 2014 to meet needs for care and support of Older Persons

and whilst this strategy addresses the accommodation requirements of Older Persons, it is important to

ensure that access to care services is addressed when the design and location of Older Persons

accommodation is considered.

There are different housing solutions required for different levels of need. These include sheltered

housing, extra care housing, retirement communities and residential and nursing care homes.
