New street recycling bins rolled out across Bedford Borough

As part of the efforts to further boost the Council's recycling rate, 20 new dual recycling and refuse bins are being rolled out across the borough over the next 4 weeks.

The dual use containers will be placed throughout the town centre, added to shopping parades as well as in two rural locations (as part of a trial) to further increase recycling rates from waste collected in public areas.

The bins will be installed in the following locations:

•        Horne Lane
•        3 on Midland Road
•        Thurlow Street
•        Greenhill Street
•        2 in Allhallows
•        Borough Hall car park
•        2 at Saxon Centre, Kempston
•        Bedford Road, Kempston
•        2 on Church Lane
•        Brickhill Drive shops
•        Avon Drive shops
•        Sharnbrook
•        Wilstead

A further two bins are being placed in Harpur Street however the design will be in keeping with the Conservation area requirements.

Paul Pace, Head of Environment, Bedford Borough Council, said: “These bins will help us to promote the benefits of recycling and increase the Council's recycling rate across the borough by giving people the option to recycle their rubbish not just at home, but on the street in one of these new recycling bins.

“We have chosen these locations as they provide the best opportunities to capture significant amounts of recyclable materials taken from nearby shops and food outlets.

“These twenty bins are in addition to the existing dual bins that were installed in the town centre last year, which have proved to be very popular, and will help us to continue to divert waste away from landfill and to work in partnership with local residents to increase our recycling rate.”
