Don't Miss Your Chance to Register to Vote!

As the deadline approaches, Bedford Borough Council is offering extra help this weekend to beat the deadline for those who haven’t already registered to vote.

Local elections will take place in Bedford Borough on May 5th to elect a Mayor, borough councillors and in some places, parish councillors. There will also be a referendum on changing the voting system for future general elections.

The deadline to register to vote in this year’s elections is April 14th but if you are not registered to vote you will not be able to have your say.

In order to help more people take part, the Council is holding an event in the town centre this Saturday 9th April where Council officers will be on hand to help local residents register to vote as well as answering any other elections queries or questions.

Philip Simpkins, Chief Executive, Bedford Borough Council, said: “If you are not registered to vote then you won’t be able to have your say. That is why we are doing all we can to help local residents who have not already registered or who have moved house recently to sign up.

“Those who are already registered do not need to register again and we would ask everyone who can to take part in the elections in May.”

A list of candidates for the Mayoral, Borough and Parish Council elections is now available online at   www.bedford.gov.uk/democracy
