Choose real nappies!

Bedford Borough Council is supporting national Real Nappy Week to encourage parents to switch from disposable nappies to Real Nappies.

Real Nappy Week, which runs from 16th April to 20th April this year, also sees the launch of the Council’s Real Nappies Cash Back Scheme for 2012/13. If you are a parent living in Bedford Borough you may be entitled to £25 cash back from the Council when you spend £50 or more on washable nappies.

Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Each baby uses up to 5,000 disposable nappies by the time they are potty trained. That‘s approximately one ton of nappies thrown away into landfill every year. In a household with a baby, up to 50% of their household waste could be disposable nappies!”

To find out more about Real Nappy Week 2012 why not pop along to our stand in the Howard Centre, Bedford on Wednesday 18th April 2012 from 10am - 4pm.

Mums and dads will also have the chance to enter a competition to win a Real Nappy Starter Pack worth £50 to help get them going.

For more information on the cash back scheme or questions about washable nappies please contact Bedford Borough Council on 01234 276422 or visit www.bedford.gov.uk/recycling.
