First Rivercare of 2012

Ahead of a great summer in Bedford Borough, the first Rivercare event of 2012 takes place on Saturday 28th April.

The Kite Festival, Olympic Flame relay and River Festival will all involve the River Great Ouse this summer and it is vital it is looking its best for the all the celebrations.

Organised by the Pride in Bedford team at Bedford Borough Council, a series of Rivercare events will take place throughout the summer along the river from Queens Park to the Aspects leisure park.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The River Great Ouse is something everyone in the borough can be proud of and, naturally many of this summer’s events will be using the river and embankment area.

“The Council’s Community Rivercare events give everyone the chance to come together and help to improve the river and embankment in a fun and friendly atmosphere and I am sure this year’s Rivercare events will see a great turn out of volunteers once again.”

Sub Aqua Divers and the Viking Kayak Club will be in the water removing rubbish from the surface and riverbed.

The event runs from 10am till noon and volunteers are asked to meet at Queen’s Bridge, The Slipe off Ford End Road. All equipment will be provided, volunteers are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear.
