Birthday Beacon to light up Bedford!

Birthday Beacon to light up Bedford!

A beacon on the top of Bedford’s Castle Mound will be lit this evening to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Local people are being invited to attend the free celebration hosted by the Council. The event starts at 7pm and the beacon will be lit at 7.30pm. The Bedford Pipe Band and a quartet from the Bedford Town Band will be in attendance.

The lighting of over 250 birthday beacons are planned to take place throughout the UK to mark the Queen’s special day  - with organisations including town and parish councils, local authorities, youth groups and heritage sites taking part.

The Queens official birthday will be celebrated in June and marked with a mass street party on the Mall on the weekend of 11 June. As with the Silver Jubilee in 1977, the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the nation is expected to mark the occasion with street parties and community events reflecting the events taking place in the capital, across the country.
