LAC Exam Success

LOOKED AFTER CHILDREN EXAM SUCCESS

 

Outcomes for children looked after by local authorities in England have been released and *figures for Bedford Borough Council highlight two areas of outstanding performance.

 

Attainment 8 figures were significantly better than the national average with Bedford Borough ranked 1st out of 11 authorities in the East of England. Again, results for Progress 8 also showed Bedford Borough Council as 1st out of 11 authorities in the East of England and 2nd out of 146 authorities in England.

 

2016 Key Stage 4 average Attainment 8 score of Looked After Children:

  • Bedford Borough scored 29.4 which is significantly better than the national average of 22.8
  • 1st out of 11 authorities in the East of England
  • 1st out of 11 authorities in our Statistical neighbour group
  • 8th out of 149 authorities in England

 

2016 Key Stage 4 average Progress 8 score of Looked After Children:

  • Bedford Borough scored -0.03 which is significantly better than the national average of -1.14
  • 1st out of 11 authorities in the East of England
  • 1st out of 11 authorities in our Statistical neighbour group
  • 2nd out of 146 authorities in England

 

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council and Chair of the Borough's 'Virtual School' Governing Board for Looked After Children, said: The Council has a huge responsibility to children in its care and education is the stepping-stone individuals need to go on to live a prosperous and fulfilling life. It is crucial that all of the Borough’s pupils have this opportunity.”

 

Cllr Shan Hunt, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Social Care at Bedford Borough Council, said: “We are so enormously proud of our looked after children. We will do everything we can to continue to help young people who have had to overcome challenges to secure their education.”
