Mental Health

Mental Health – Read All About It!

May is Mental Health Month in our libraries and during the month they will be supporting Mental Health Awareness Week (8th - 14th May) and Dementia Awareness Week (14th - 20th May) – this will be done by promoting the mental health collections available within the libraries; all written and selected by experts, and recommended by GPs.

The mental health collections are: ‘Reading Well Books on Prescription’, ‘Reading Well Books on Prescription Dementia’ and ‘Reading Well Shelf-Help’, plus additional book stock.

Cllr Sarah-Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Bedford Borough Council, said: “The main aim of this campaign is to promote our libraries stock and outline the difference books can make to an individual’s life. Books can provide coping strategies, useful tips and comforting case-studies in order for people to improve their mental health and help them to cope.”

Throughout May, we will highlight the book stock and personal stories on the Virtual Library, and the library’s Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter pages.

The Virtual Library can be accessed via http://virtual-library.culturalservices.net/
