Bedford comes under the national 'In Bloom' spotlight!

After a summer of scrutiny across the borough, judges from the prestigious Britain in Bloom are set to visit Bedford on Monday 1st August.

Bedford Borough was put forward by Anglia in Bloom to represent the region at the national Britain in Bloom competition for the first time in 2009 and last year scooping a Silver Gilt Award. The team behind Bedford in Bloom are hoping to go one better this time but know they face a huge challenge from the other finalists including, Bath, Derry City, Oadby and Wigston, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Darlington and Coatbridge.

Judges from Anglia in Bloom have already visited the ‘In Bloom’ entries for Bedford, Kempston, Brickhill, Turvey, Cauldwell & Kingsbrook and Queens Park in Bloom this summer and have congratulated all of the groups for their efforts to bring communities together by improving the area they live and work in.

The judges will visit various different parts of the borough during their tour, including: the Town Centre, Embankment, Bedford Park, Golden Gardens, The Hills Lower School, Priory Country Park, Bedford Hospital and Castle Mound.

Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough, said: “With a good mix of community gardening projects, beautiful parks and a stunning Embankment display there is lots for the judges to admire on their visit. We hope that will be reflected in the Britain in Bloom results.”

The results for Britain in Bloom will be revealed on the 25th September.
