New season of litter picks

This Saturday marks the start of a new season of community events run by the Pride in Bedford Team at Bedford Borough Council.

In the coming months, litter picks and bulb planting events will be taking place across the borough, including the final Rivercare event of the year.

This Saturday’s event (27th) will cover the Eastcotts Road area and meets in the car park next to the shops on the corner of Cardington Road and Eastcotts Road. In September, community litter picks will also take place in Stafford Road, Stewartby, Midland Road, Swineshead & Pertenhall and Brickhill. The month finishes with Rivercare covering the Aspects area of the river.

To launch the new season the Pride in Bedford Team will also be turning their exhibition trailer into the River Great Ouse by highlighting the rubbish and litter that volunteers have pulled out at previous Rivercare events in recent years. It is hoped this will make residents more aware of how much is dumped in the river.

There will also be a mini river game for children to play and information about forthcoming events will be available. The ‘river’ trailer will be outside the Harpur Centre on Tuesday 30th August.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Our community litter picks and planting events are always extremely well supported and I am sure we will see more support this month as we travel across the borough.

“We will also be trying to make local residents more aware of the role they can play in helping to keep our borough clean and litter free.”
