GCSE Results

GCSE RESULTS ARE IN…

Results are in across the borough and many pupils will be celebrating their excellent grades. The percentage of pupils achieving 5 + GCSEs at A* - C (or equivalent) is 80%, matching the results achieved last year which saw outstanding progress.

Cllr David Sawyer, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “I congratulate all pupils across the borough on their hard work and achievements, which will enable them to secure further education and employment opportunities.”

As a consequence of actions taken by the Office of National Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual), the number of young people nationally securing 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths overall has declined.

This picture has been mirrored locally with a small reduction in the percentage of pupils achieving 5 + GCSEs at A*-C (or equivalent) including English and Maths from 57% in 2011 to 54% this year.

Schools have advised us that they will be appealing against some grades awarded on behalf of pupils, particularly where pupils have narrowly missed their C grade, especially in English.
