Mayor announces major new highway resurfacing programme

Two major road resurfacing programmes start in Bedford Borough later this month.

As announced in May this year, ,38 roads are being resurfaced this spring and summer as part of the Council’s continuing commitment to investing in and improving the road network in Bedford Borough. The works have been planned to avoid busy summer events such as the Olympic Flame relay and River Festival and a number of the schemes will also be taking place during the school summer holidays in order to minimise disruption.

Speaking in May, Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Local residents tell me that they want us to continue our drive to improve local roads and make them safer for everyone. We have invested heavily in improving the condition of local roads, and the fight back against years of deterioration continues this year with another extensive programme of works.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to openness and transparency, the programme of works will be available on our website allowing residents to see where work is planned to improve our roads.”

Some of the most significant schemes are listed below. The full programme is available on the Council website, http://www.bedford.gov.uk/transport_and_streets/roads_highways_and_pavements/highway_network_management.aspx
