Window Dressing Comp

OVER 1,200 PEOPLE VOTED… SO, WHO WAS THE BEST?

A Window Dressing Competition that ignited the public’s enthusiasm has now closed, and results are in! Over 1,200 people voted in the scheme involving shops along Bedford’s High Street and neighbouring roads. Retailers who took part in helping to improve the town’s shopping experience will be guests at an Awards Reception in the Mayor’s Parlour, from 5.45pm - 6.45pm, on Tuesday 7th August.

At the reception, the Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, will announce the winners of each category, and present individuals with certificates.

Given the huge number of votes and the number of businesses taking part in the ‘Independent Shop’ category, the Council will also be announcing a ‘runner up’ spot for this group.

Mayor of Bedford Borough Dave Hodgson said: “This summer, Bedford has enjoyed a particularly busy and exciting period. We have witnessed a record number of people turn out for the recent River Festival, and are hoping lots of people will enjoy Bedford’s own ‘Olympic Live Site,’ which is fast approaching. During this period, this contest has helped to showcase Bedford and its unique and varied retail offering. I would like to congratulate all the local retailers who took part for their innovative window displays and all their efforts in helping to make Bedford an attractive place to visit.”

The competition followed on from a Window Display Workshop that was offered to High Street and Castle Quay businesses by Bedford High Street’s Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) and run by window display experts ‘Made You Look’.  A mystery shop was undertaken by the experts and their ‘overall winner’ and ‘most improved’ will also be announced at the Awards event, as will the two winners of the free prize draw to win £25 worth of Love Bedford vouchers.

The Bedford High Street THI seeks to revitalise the High Street with a combination of works to historic properties and complementary learning, education and training initiatives. It is funded by Bedford Borough Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Bedford BID.
