Outstanding GCSE Results

GCSE results show Outstanding Improvement

In spite of the exam boards’ uncertainty over grade boundaries, Bedford Borough has seen outstanding progress in provisional GCSE results this year - bucking the national trend. Overall results for 5 A*-C GCSE’s (including English and Mathematics) for Bedford Borough Schools is 60.1% compared to 54.5% in 11/12 - this is a 5.6% improvement.    

 

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said:  “Congratulations to all those receiving results today and to all those who helped you achieve those results. The overall GCSE results were excellent and build on the progress which saw 94% of Bedford Borough schools inspected by Ofsted last year judged to be either good or outstanding. These results are testament to the hard work of teachers, pupils, parents, school leaders, governors and the whole school communities who work tirelessly for every child in the borough.”

 

Notable successes include:

Biddenham School

Improvements were made on last year’s figures with 47.5% achieving 5A*- C including English and Maths.

High achiever, Ben McMahon, said: “I am really pleased with my results and would like to thank the teachers who have really contributed to my success.”

 

Headteacher, David Bailey, said: “We have all worked hard this year and our students have really pulled out all the stops and their hard work has paid off.  Well done to them all.  In a year where once again, the spotlight is on the exam system it is important to remember that we must not discredit the hard work and commitment of all the students.  They deserve to enjoy their success.”

 

Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College

44.4% of Year 11 students gained 5 A* - C grades including English and Maths – an improvement on last year’s results.

 

High achieving students included:

Shubham Kalyan who achieved 3 A*, 5A, and 1 Distinction* together with many other passes

Darnell Dore who achieved 7A, 1 Distinction * together with many other passes

Catherine Bray – 2A*, 4A, 1 Distinction* together with many other passes

Joel Course, Ben Handysides and Molly McGrath who all achieved 1A*, 5A, 1 Distinction * together with many other passes

 

Headteacher, Martin Fletcher, said: “Congratulations to all the students who have worked hard to achieve these results. Every student can be proud of their achievements. I would also like to thank the teaching staff whose dedication and support has enabled the students to achieve some of our best ever results.”

 

Mark Rutherford

64.3% of Year 11 students gained 5 A* - C grades including English and Maths – an improvement of 4% on last year’s results.

Principal, Stephen Peacey, said: “Staff and Students should be congratulated on their efforts in difficult circumstances. The results are excellent and students all deserve the success they have achieved. Well done to all our students – a fantastic set of results.”

 

Sharnbrook Upper School

79% of students achieved 5 or more A* - C GCSEs including English and Maths at

grades A* - C, which is the school’s best ever result.

 

The best overall results were:

Karampreet Bahia achieved 13 A* grades and 1 A grade

Daniel James achieved 12 A* grades and 1 A grade

Tania Schimanski achieved 12 A* grades

Georgia Gowing achieved 11 A* grades, 3 A grades and a B grade at AS

level

Zakery Worts achieved 10 A* grades, 4 A grades and a C grade at AS

level

Daniel Woodward achieved 10 A* grades and 1 A grade

Tegan Gowing achieved 9 A* grades, 4 A grades and a B grade at AS

level

 

Iain Denning, Headteacher, said: "These exceptional GCSE results build on last week’s strong A and AS level results making it another outstanding year for the school. My congratulations go out to all our students and thanks go to the staff who have worked exceptionally hard to make these achievements a reality. I look forward to welcoming students back to the sixth form.”

 

 

St.Thomas More

61.2% of Year 11 students gained 5 A* - C grades including English and Maths.

 

Notable successes include:

Lucy Arpaia 10 A*’s and 1 A, Anisha Rahman 10 A*’s, Sam Rawes 9 A*’s and 1 A, Felix Duxfield 7 A*’s and 3 A’s and Helen Popland 7 A*’s and 3 A’s.

 

Alison Wilshaw, Headteacher, said: “We are delighted with our GCSEs. Another increase of 7% has been seen on our 5A* - C including English and Maths figures. English language has risen by 12% and Maths has also risen another 6%. Students have achieved a whole string of A*s and, as a school we seem to have out performed many National Trends.

 

 

Wootton Academy Trust

More than 70% of students achieved 5 or more A* - C GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A* - C, and are continuing into either the Wootton College or Kimberley College Sixth Forms.
