OFFICIAL OPENING - FOR NEW SPECIALIST CLASSROOM

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, will visit Ridgeway Special Education Needs (SEN) School, in Kempston, on Thursday 5th September, at 6pm, to officially open a new classroom specifically adapted for use by its post 16 students.

The additional classroom has been designed under a ‘Connect solution’ template; a bespoke layout that includes a multi-use space with life skills and Autism Spectrum Disorder areas, and a breakout room.

Mayor Dave said: “This fantastic new facility will enhance pupils' day-to-day experiences, support their independence and promote excellent teaching and learning. This building has been delivered in just 6 months for about a third of what it would have cost previously – a saving of £600,000. We are delighted that we have been able to support the school in this way, and hope that pupils will enjoy the benefits of these facilities for many years to come.”

Graham Allard, Head teacher at Ridgeway School, said: "We are all very excited about the new building. The launch event will be an opportunity to view the new facilities and to talk to staff and students about the future entry pathway courses, life skills, self-help and independence opportunities available within our new provision.”

The building is light, spacious and built to a very high standard. Space created within the building is functional and yet adaptable as the needs of our students change and develop over time.

This new facility will ensure that many young people with significant physical and learning needs have an exciting opportunity to continue to develop their learning in a very practical and creative way."

The “Connect” scheme at Ridgeway School is the first in a cluster of schemes being delivered by Scape and Willmott Dixon construction for Bedford Borough Council. It is hoped that the completion of these schemes will provide an improved learning experience for pupils.
