Council Mourns Death of Long Serving Councillor and Former Mayor

It is with great sadness that the council has learned of the death of former Mayor Cllr Brian Dillingham.

Cllr Dillingham was one the council’s longest serving councillors, having first joined the council back in 1966. With spells on and off the council since then he was Mayor of the former Bedford District Council in 1974-75 and Mayor of the Borough in 1985-86. He was also made an Honorary Alderman in recognition of his long service to the borough.

Chief Executive of Bedford Borough Council, Philip Simpkins said:

“Cllr Dillingham was one of Bedford Borough Council’s longest serving councillors and a familiar face across the town. The news that he has passed away will be met with sadness across the council and by the many people he helped over the years as Councillor, Mayor and Honorary Alderman.

Cllr Dillingham spent over 46 years of his life dedicated to improving the lives of residents in Harpur Ward and the wider borough and he will be sorely missed. Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this time.”
