Don't Be Late

DON’T BE LATE FOR STARTING SCHOOL

Nearly 10% of parents missed the deadline for applying for a “Starting School” place in 2012.  As a result, some children were not able to go to their preferred school because it was already full when their application was received.

Submitting a late application significantly reduces your child’s chance of an offer of a place at one of your preferred schools.

Cllr David Sawyer, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “We work hard with our schools to make sure parents have the information to allow them to request a school place, yet we still have many late applications. Some of these late applications are for children who have siblings at the school they want to go to, and parents are disappointed when brothers/sisters are separated from attending the same school.”

If you are a parent or carer of a child born between 01/09/08 and 31/08/09, then you need to apply for a school place before the 15 January 2013

You can apply online at www.bedford.gov.uk/onlineadmissions. Before you apply, please read the Starting School booklet, which can be found at www.bedford.gov.uk/admissions
