Nelson Mandela

IN HONOUR OF NELSON MANDELA

As a sign of our nation’s respect for Nelson Mandela following his death, the Union Jack flag at Borough Hall will fly at half-mast until the start of next week.

Nelson Mandela visited Bedford on 7th April 2000, when he was warmly received by the crowds who had gathered to welcome him.

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “We can all learn from this truly inspirational man. Bedford is home to a number of cultures and ethnicities; together we remember the world's most powerful symbol of reconciliation, hope and progress, Nelson Mandela. We must ensure his legacy lives on.”

The flag will fly again at half-mast on the day of Nelson Mandela’s funeral.
