All Are Good

ALL OUR CARE HOMES ARE GOOD

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has reported that all Bedford Borough Council care homes taken over from BUPA are now rated as good.

The CQC’s report, published on the 10th December, judged accommodation for individuals over 65 years of age who require nursing or personal care, with perhaps dementia and/or learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities. The service was deemed to be good in all 5 key areas, demonstrating that it was safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led.

On 1 April 2014, The Council took over the running of six BUPA care homes following the expiry of a long-running contract with BUPA.

In January 2015, Bedford Borough Council approved the ongoing in-house management of a number of former BUPA care homes for older persons, including an investment programme of £4million to enhance the accommodation and facilities for residents.

Portfolio Holder for Adults’ Services, Cllr Mohammad Yasin, said: “It’s great news that we are providing a consistently good quality of care in the homes we operate across Bedford Borough. There is huge pressure on social care caused by rising demand and cuts in funding from Central Government. Credit should go to the staff and managers who work so hard to maintain these high standards.”
