OFSTED GIVE TOP MARKS TO OUR SCHOOLS

Ofsted’s newly-published Annual Report has confirmed Bedford Borough schools’ excellent standards, with an extremely high proportion of schools recognised as good or outstanding.  In 2015-2016, 94% of all Bedford Borough schools (deemed primary and secondary) were judged good or better for overall effectiveness, compared with 88% in the rest of the country as a whole.

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “The recognition of these inspections from Ofsted is excellent news for the Borough's schools. The Council works with all schools of all types, supporting academies as well as maintained schools. We are pleased with these inspection results which recognise the hard work of Governors, head teachers, teachers, pupils and whole school communities.”

The Ofsted Annual Report is based on figures for inspections carried out during 2015/16. The report showed 95% of primary pupils attended Good or Outstanding schools and 80% of secondary pupils attended Good or Outstanding schools in Bedford Borough.

Cllr Vann continued: “By the end of this year we will have invested more than £48 million in the best school building programme in the country to ensure that we have sufficient pupil places for the future in high quality classrooms. We are beginning to see some excellent results and I would like to congratulate everyone involved.”

In terms of rankings, Bedford Borough is ranked 2nd in the region and 11th nationally for primary pupils. For secondary pupils, Bedford Borough is ranked 7th in the region and 63rd nationally as of October 2016.
