Every Child a Talker

On Saturday 5th February, a conference will take place at the Corn Exchange inviting the Early Years workforce, staff, childminders, volunteers and parents to come and find out more on the national initiative ‘Every Child a Talker (ECaT). The conference takes place from 9am – 4pm, and will host presentations from a variety of guest speakers.

Its aim is to share good practice, practical ideas and resources that will support and develop all children’s language and communication skills.

Cllr David Sawyer, portfolio holder for Children’s Services, who is attending, said: “The day will underline the importance of promoting good speaking and listening skills and phonological awareness. Teaching children to speak clearly, and with confidence, is crucial in their overall development and will equip them well for the rest of their lives.”

On the day, there will be a variety of workshops available that will provide an opportunity to give practical advice on a variety of topics, ranging from sign language to thumb sucking!

Guest speakers will include Michael Jones, ECaT Consultant, and Jabadao Consultants. Both will be exploring the rich and complex non-verbal communication that children use.

Bedford Borough ECaT settings will also be showcasing the work they have carried out in supporting all children’s communication and language, with ideas and resources that practitioners or parents could use in their own techniques.

To book a place(s) at this conference, please contact 01234 228494, or email TrainHelp@bedford.gov.uk. Cost: £25 for delegates from Bedford Borough settings (buy 4 tickets get 1 free) - £100 per delegate for external delegates.
