Seed Sharing Saturday returns to Bedford town centre
The fourth annual Seed Sharing Saturday takes place at the
Bunyan Meeting Free Church on 2nd March.
The free event brings green fingered enthusiasts together and
provides a great opportunity to swap seeds and pick up tips and
advice to improve your garden or allotment.
Organised by Bedford Borough Council, the previous three events
have seen an increasing number of visitors. It is hoped that this
year will be the biggest yet, with stalls run by a broad range of
local groups and organisations.
Visitors are encouraged to bring seeds to swap but it isn’t
essential as there will be plenty of free seeds on offer thanks to
donations from Bedford Girls School, The Stables Christian Centre
and Mile Road Allotments.
As well as the seed swapping, there will be plenty more to keep
everyone entertained. The Hills Lower School will be selling
seedlings and providing plenty of activities to keep children
entertained. The Stables Christian Centre will be selling homemade
jams and chutneys and the Mile Road Allotment and Leisure Gardeners
Association will be selling refreshments and cakes. Everyone will
also have the chance to swap tips and advice with experienced
growers and get further information on volunteering in Bedford’s
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Seed Sharing
Saturday has proven itself to be a family friendly and popular
event, from those looking to grow their own food to anyone who
likes to do a bit of gardening in their spare time.
“It promises to be another fun and friendly event for all and I
am hopeful the fourth Seed Sharing Saturday will prove to be the
most popular yet.”
