THE CODE OF DIGNITY
On Friday 14th February, at 10am,
the Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, and Bedford Borough
Council’s Executive Member for Adult Services, Cllr Colleen Atkins,
will sign the National Pensioners’ Convention ‘Dignity Code’ at a
ceremony held within The Council Chamber.
During the signing, both will be joined by
members of the Mature Citizens’ Action Group (MCAG) and
representatives from the National Pensioners’ Convention.
The purpose of the Dignity Code is to uphold
the rights and maintain the personal dignity of older people,
within the context of ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of
those who are increasingly less able to care for themselves or to
properly conduct their affairs.
Pat Horn, Secretary of the Mature Citizens’
Action Group, said: “Both Bedford Pensioners’ Group and MCAG
welcome the fact that Bedford Borough will sign the Dignity Code.
We look forward to continuing to work with the Council to improve
matters for older people.”
Cllr Colleen Atkins, Executive Member for
Adult Services at Bedford Borough Council, said: “Together, we aim
to improve the quality of life of older people living in Bedford
Borough. As we deliver services to help individuals live safely and
independently, we must also ensure older people are treated with
respect at all times and can live their lives the way they choose
with meaning and purpose.”
