Sensory Room

WHAT WILL THE CHILDREN THINK OF THE BRAND NEW SENSORY ROOM?

Bedford Borough Council’s Child Development Centre (CDC), in Kempston, has a newly refurbished sensory room for children with a range of disabilities such as visual impairment and development delay, who may benefit from sensory input.

On Friday 27 February, between 1pm - 2.30pm, the Council’s Sensory & Communication Support Team are holding one of their regular Early Years groups for Visually Impaired pupils in the new sensory room.

The sensory room was part-funded by the Council and ‘The Friends of the Child Development Centre’ who are a group of people who give one-off funding to the CDC for large items/projects. ‘The Friends’ funded the new equipment, including fibre optic lights, and representatives from The Friends of the CDC will be at the event.

Cllr Sue Oliver, Executive Member for Children’s Social Care at Bedford Borough Council, said: “I am sure the children are going to respond really well to this resource, it’s a fantastic design and will help to make an enormous difference to the children’s overall development. Thank you to all the team from CDC who were involved in the process from design to installation and to the Friends of the CDC for their generous contribution to the funding.”

Ken Williams, Chair from The Friends of the Child Development Centre, said: "This completely redesigned sensory room will provide state-of-the-art equipment to support the development of many of the children using the CDC. The Friends are very pleased to fund the equipment for this project."

If you would like more information on the sensory room, please contact Sheridan Cole, at the CDC, on 01234 316440.
