New Landing Stage

New Landing Stage opens on the Embankment

A new landing stage has been opened up providing access for boat users along Bedford’s Mill Meadows. Bedford Borough Council has replaced the previously unsafe landing stage on the Great Ouse, allowing the town to once again have access to the river.

The landing stage was reproduced using new timber to provide a safe structures for users. It is hoped that the new facility will benefit local boat users with the provision of mooring hooks for boats.

The Embankment and Mill Meadows is often enjoyed by Bedfordians and visitors alike who love to amble along the riverside and take in the dazzling bedding displays of the Embankment Gardens. The landing stage provides a safe environment for all who wish to spend time in one of the most peaceful locations in town.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said “The river in Bedford is often referred to as the ‘jewel in the crown’, and we want people to use and enjoy their river. So we’re pleased to have replaced the landing stage, making the Embankment safer and giving access to all visitors”.
