Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony
The Bedford Council of Faiths will be holding a
ceremony in recognition of the international Holocaust Memorial
Day, in conjunction with Bedford Borough Council, on
Thursday 27th January 2011 at
The short commemoration will take place in
Russell Park in Bedford and will include prayers, a minute’s
silence and the lighting of a memorial candle at the tree planted
10 years ago to acknowledge the life and work of Anne Frank by the
then Mayor of Bedford Carole Ellis.
This service will be followed by a civic event
at Borough Hall at 1.30pm – ‘Untold Stories’ – with readings,
music, a short visual presentation and lighting of 11 candles.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson said:
“It is vital that we remember the victims of the Holocaust and pay
tribute to the survivors. We will remember those who died in the
Holocaust and subsequent genocides and reflect on the importance of
ensuring that we do not allow anybody in society to be excluded or
marginalised. We have to learn lessons from the past so that we can
all work together to ensure a safe and happy future.”
If you would like to attend either or both of
these events, please contact the Mayor’s Secretary, on 01234
