Vision for Education

A POSITIVE VISION FOR EDUCATION IN THE BOROUGH – SHARE YOUR VIEWS

Bedford Borough Council has published its draft vision for Education in the Borough, setting out a positive strategic role for the Council in driving up standards for current and future generations of local children and young people.

The Council retains overall accountability to parents and children for standards of education in the Borough, and the draft vision outlines the Borough’s commitment to continuing and accelerating improvements taking place in our schools.  Last summer saw record GCSE and A Level results for Borough Schools, and the draft Vision for Education sets out the Council’s role in continuing to drive forward real improvements in standards at a time of significant changes in education arising from recent legislation.

The Council is now asking parents, schools and all residents for their views on the draft vision for education, which sets out a positive view of schools working collaboratively with support where necessary from the Council.

The consultation will run for a total of nine weeks from Monday 9th January to Monday 12th March.

Cllr David Sawyer, Portfolio Holder for Education, said; “We are setting out a positive vision of local schools collaborating to achieve continuing improvements in standards. Schools working together are well equipped to deal with any problems, with support available where required from the Council. Real improvement in standards has taken place recently, with last year’s record GCSE and A Level results, for example. We will only achieve the further increase in standards we all want to see by working together effectively in the interests of current and future generations of local children, and that’s why we are seeking views on our draft vision document.’

“I want to encourage schools, parents and residents across our communities to please spare a few moments to read the document, and let us know what they think. Our overriding objective is that the best possible education be provided for every child and young person in the Borough and by working together we will be best placed to deliver high quality education across our communities.”
