‘The Key’ Thing is our Topping Out Ceremony
Building works have now been completed at The
Higgins Art Gallery & Museum, Bedford. To mark the occasion, a
ceremonial key will be handed over to the Mayor of Bedford Borough,
Dave Hodgson, by Borras Construction who worked to ensure the
projects delivery. The Topping Out ceremony will take place at The
Higgins from 10.30am – midday, on Tuesday
31st July 2012.
Although the building work has now been
completed, the manufacture and installation of exhibition displays
is only just beginning, and the final stage will see the
collections returned to pride of place.
On re-opening in spring 2013, The Higgins will
feature exciting new displays, temporary exhibitions and an
extensive learning and events programme.
The completed site will host a new, single
entrance foyer which will lead through to redeveloped
galleries, large activity spaces, a shop, and a cafe.
The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson,
said: “To have reached this milestone is significant. The borough
has an extremely good reputation for the provision of leisure and
cultural services and we are delighted to be one step closer to
opening The Higgins to the public, for all to enjoy.”
Cllr Doug McMurdo said: “We are very excited
to see this huge project take shape and we know it will add
enormous value to the town, reflecting its rich and varied
landscape in terms of artistic and cultural heritage.”
Mike Howlett, Contracts Director at Borras
Construction said: “The superb redevelopment of The Higgins will
provide improved facilities which will be an asset for the local
community. This was an exciting project for us and we are really
pleased with the final results.”
