Bedford High Street Showcase

On Saturday 27th July, for the very first time, Bedford High Street will be taken over by a special summer festival showcasing the very best of Bedford Borough.

In partnership with Bedfringe, the 2013 International Bedford Festival Fringe, the Big High Street Showcase will provide an opportunity for a wide range of people, groups and businesses to put their best foot forward and showcase their talents in the heart of Bedford.

Greg Warwick, owner of Jeeves and Chair of the Friends of High Street Business Group, said: “The businesses wanted to have a community event which showcases the fantastic wealth of independents we have in Bedford, particularly in and around the High Street area.  Almost 40 businesses have signed up to trade outside for the day.

“We are all keen to get involved and are very excited about having a music stage, free children’s entertainment and rides, animals, classic cars including Mater from ‘Cars’ the movie, a full programme of dance acts and a sports arena as well as the Handmade in Bedfordshire Market.

“It’s all set to be fantastic family day out, so put it in your diary!”

James Pharaoh, Director of Bedfringe, said: “Bedfringe 2013 was all about moving the majority of our programming back into the town centre. With this move has come many fabulous events not to mention an overwhelming amount of support.

“We look forward to the outdoor stages in Harpur Square, Silver Street and the High Street Showcase. Not to mention some 130 events in 17 venues which started on 12th July and will run until 3rd August!"

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, added: “The Big High Street Showcase is an excellent opportunity for a range of local businesses, community groups, charities and entertainers to come together on Bedford High Street and give everyone a taste of what makes Bedford Borough great.’

“In a challenging climate town centres have to be attractive destinations in their own right, and this showcase will help remind us all of just some of the many reasons to get out and about on Bedford High Street, the wider town centre and beyond and enjoy all there is on offer.”
