ROXTON LOWER - another Bedford Borough school judged 'Good' by Ofsted

Ofsted have recognised that Roxton V.A Church of England Lower School is a good school.

Ofsted carried out their inspection of the school on 26 – 27 June. Inspectors gathered, and evaluated, a wide-range of evidence and every category assessed was judged to be either good / outstanding.

Head teacher of Roxton Lower School, Jane Trott, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the result of this OFSTED inspection. The staff and children, supported by parents and governors, have worked very hard to ensure that standards at Roxton remain high and that behaviour is recognised as exemplary. The support and challenge we have received from Bedford Borough has helped us to achieve above local and national levels of achievement. Roxton Lower is an exciting place to be and we look forward to implementing the suggestions made during the inspection to ensure even better standards in the next stage of our development.”

In the report, it was noted that ‘pupils’ excellent behaviour, thoughtfulness towards others and attitudes to school are a major factor in helping achieve their good progress.’

The latest Ofsted inspections have graded 15 of the 16 Local Authority maintained schools inspected this academic year as good or outstanding.

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “I would like to congratulate all those involved in achieving this result. Roxton Lower School’s pupils behave exceptionally well, and the Head teacher is taking strong and effective action to improve the quality of teaching even further.”

Last year, schools in Bedford Borough were praised after the Local Authority area was recognised by Ofsted as offering one of the best opportunities in the country for children to attend a good or outstanding primary school.

Schools in Bedford Borough were ranked as 11th out of 150 local authorities across the country and number one in the Eastern region, with 87% of children attending a good or outstanding lower or primary school.
