This summer at The Higgins
*Creative family activities
*Meet local and national authors
It all begins on 5th July 2014 when The Higgins Bedford will be
a buzzing hive of creative fun. The art gallery and museum is host
to the first Bedford Children’s Book Festival. The day will be
packed with activities for children, all focused around books,
reading and a love of the written word. There will be book readings
from local and national authors, books signings and illustration
The 5th July also sees local artist and illustrator, David
Litchfield, making a start on The Higgins Bedford’s new exhibition,
Imagined Cities. Inspired by the theme of cities in the exhibition
programme, the gallery will be transformed as an imagined cityscape
appears on walls and plinths throughout the space. The exhibition
runs from 5th July – 14th September so there will be plenty of time
for the artwork to grow and develop throughout the summer.
There will be another opportunity to join David at a creative
workshop at The Higgins Bedford on 20th August. Monster Metropolis
is a 2 hour workshop for children aged 8+. This is just one of many
activities for children and families at the art gallery and museum,
where there will be activities throughout July and August. These
include the chance to make your very own Routemaster Bus, A
Space-Helmet and Egyptian Headdresses. Utopia Creative Arts will be
at The Higgins Bedford on Friday 1st August for Showtime, a 2 hour
workshop where children aged 8+ will have the chance to make their
own amazing carnival masks.
