Keeping Green Spaces Green

Keep our green spaces green this summer!

As the sun shines this summer and everyone heads outside to find a green space to enjoy in Bedford borough, do you know how much of your food and drink packaging is recyclable?

Common picnic items, such as drinks cartons, punnet trays, plastic wrapping, foil, drinks cans and plastic drinks bottles are all recyclable, which is great news for anyone confused about what to do with their rubbish!

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said “Here in Bedford Borough we are lucky to have many beautiful green open spaces. This includes four parks which have been awarded the Green Flag status; which means they are recognised as some of the best green spaces in the country.

We all enjoy these green spaces, which are perfect places to sit in the warm weather whilst taking in the outdoors. Let’s all take pride in where we live and keep it tidy by taking our rubbish with us when we leave or using the bins provided to dispose of all rubbish correctly.”

Did you know the following items are easily recycled in the orange recycling bins?

  1. Plastic bottles
  2. Plastic packaging e.g. punnets, meat trays, yogurt pots, margarine tubs
  3. Card
  4. Paper
  5. Juice cartons
  6. Food tins
  7. Drink cans
  8. Aerosol cans
  9. Foil

Do your bit for the environment; an environment you can enjoy again and again this summer!

Please note that the lighting of fires and BBQs is strictly prohibited in all green spaces and parks in Bedford Borough for safety and environmental reasons.

Bedford Borough Council has a Zero Tolerance Policy towards environmental crimes, including littering. If you are seen littering in Bedford Borough you will be issued with an on the spot fixed penalty notice (FPN) of £75 by an authorised officer.
