Just Turn Up

MINDFUL SPORT - something to think about?

#Just Turn Up’s 16-week programme has now been completed and as it has proved to be so popular, more mindful sport sessions will take place until the end of the year.

#Just Turn Up, which launched in March last year, offers bespoke sporting sessions for via a ‘Wellbeing Hub’ for people experiencing conditions such as generalised anxiety disorder, eating disorders, panic attacks and stress.

So far, over 80 people have taken part with a regular average of 10 participants attending each session. Wellbeing Hub data also indicates that all participants experienced an improved feeling of wellbeing following each session.

Cllr Louise Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Public Health at Bedford Borough Council, said: “Mindful exercise programmes can significantly improve the mental health and wellbeing of people who live with anxiety and depression, and the ‘Just Turn Up’ programme has been such a success so far. It’s great to know we can continue to work with partners to deliver a programme with the capacity to make such a positive difference.”

Cllr Sarah-Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Bedford Borough Council, said: “Other non-active elements of this programme have been introduced to our libraries, and other services, in support of these sessions and I would like to thank them for their amazing support in helping to deliver the #Just Turn Up programme.”
