You Can Run But Can You Surf?

Tuesday 8th June 2010

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, will accompany five world famous Kenyan athletes on a visit to ‘Bodyflight’, in Bedford, this Friday 11th June, from 9am – midday.

The team will have the opportunity to try out some of the features hosted within Bodyflight, such as the zip wire, the vertigo jump and/or new wave machine – named the ‘FloRider’.

This month, the borough has welcomed the Kenyan athletes (Paul Tergat, Catherine Ndereba, Duncan Kibet, BenjaminLimo, Samuel Wanjiru), as they carry out a packed timetable of events, inspiring those they come into contact with along the way.

The athletes will also visit children’s wards within the hospital, integrate with students on school visits, and even challenge locals to endurance running master classes for local aspiring athletes. The ‘Athletics Kenya’ visit is also hoped to spur on various projects and help introduce an annual 10k race within Bedford’s town centre, and school twinning arrangements.

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson said: “We all know that the athletes hold world records for their running capabilities, so it could be a lot of fun as they try out surfing instead.”

Flowboarding is one of the most exciting and interactive board sports to emerge in the last few years. The FloRider experience is completely innovative and unique in the UK. Similar to other board sports, flow boarding mixes surfing, skateboarding and wake boarding, all in one experience.
