Bike Week 2011 - Cycle Fest

Residents in Bedford Borough are being encouraged to get on their bike during National Bike Week 2011, which takes place this week and culminates in the first ever Bedford Cycle Fest at Priory Country Park on Saturday 25th June between 10am and 4pm.

The inaugural Cycle Fest will be opened by Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, and will feature a range of activities and attractions to take part in or simply watch, all in the beautiful surroundings of Priory Country Park.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The first ever Bedford Cycle Fest promises to be a great day out for the family in the fantastic setting of Priory Country Park. We are working with Bedfordshire Road Cycling Club to put this event together and I am sure it will be a tremendous success.”

“The Cycle Festival highlights our ongoing efforts to encourage cycling as a great way to keep fit and to travel throughout the borough. We have recently installed new cycling infrastructure to Woburn Road (opposite Bedford train station), Williamson Road and Goldington Road, expanding upon the existing 75 kilometres of cycle ways in place across the town.

“These new cycling facilities further demonstrate our commitment to encourage cycling throughout the borough.”

Bedford Cycle Fest will feature cycling tips and safety advice, as well as an off-road practice track, the UK’s number one mountain bike stunt team, bicycle recycling, route planning advice, trade area and open races throughout the day for all ages.
