Best Dressed Window Competition

Retailers compete for Gold this Summer!

Local businesses on the High Street and neighbouring streets are taking part in a Window Dressing Competition to celebrate our Great Summer in Bedford Borough.

This Summer is shaping up to be an exciting time for the Borough, with the Olympic Torch Relay, BedFringe, River Festival and Olympic Live Site fast approaching, so businesses are looking for more innovative ways to stand out and appeal to the crowds expected to flock to Bedford.

Voting will open on 4th July, known as Retailer ‘Independents Day’. The public will then have until 22nd July 2012 to choose their favourite window displays.

There are three judging categories for the competition:

- Best Dressed Independent Retailer
- Best Dressed Chain Store/Franchise
- Best Dressed Charity Shop

Votes can be cast online at www.bedford.gov.uk/bestdressed, which can also be found by following links from the ‘Bedford Best Dressed Competition’ Facebook page or by picking up entry forms instore at participating retailers and returning them completed to ballot boxes set up in Bedford Central Library, the Town Hall and Borough Hall.

A pair of £25 Love Bedford vouchers will also be up for grabs for two lucky voters.
Mayor of Bedford Borough Dave Hodgson said; “This Summer provides the perfect opportunity to showcase Bedford at its best, and this competition will see the creativity and vision of our retailers come to the fore. I look forward to seeing displays that will no doubt really capture the attention of visitors and residents alike.”

The competition follows on from a Window Display Workshop that was offered to High Street businesses by Bedford High Street’s Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) and run by window display experts ‘Made You Look’.

The Bedford High Street THI seeks to revitalise the High Street with a combination of works to historic properties and complementary learning, education and training initiatives. It is funded by Bedford Borough Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Bedford BID.
