BEDFORD RIVER FESTIVAL – LESS THAN ONE MONTH TO GO!

More information, including a map and programme for the River Festival

People travel from all over the world to attend this event, which is just on your doorstep if you live in the borough! Bedford’s hugely popular River Festival will take place on Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th July.

The 2012 festival saw record visitor numbers with over 320,000 spectators and participants on-site over the weekend. In 2014, we expect even larger crowds as the festival continues to build on previous successes with its colourful milieu of live entertainment, river events, parade, funfair and fete with activities as diverse as raft races, fireworks, sports, arts and heritage villages.

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The River Festival delivers a wonderful atmosphere for people of all ages to enjoy. It is a genuine community event which celebrates the best of Bedford Borough and it really is not to be missed.”

Entertainment features strongly at the event, with displays from local community groups in the arts and sporting worlds, to a multitude of professional acts.

Just one of the popular attractions is the live music the event offers. ‘Bedford Art Choir’ will be playing main stage 2pm on Saturday and local band, ‘The Scruff’, will be playing main stage at 5pm later in the day.

The Bedford Arts Choir’s Leader, Roger Illingworth, said: "Bedford Arts Choir are incredibly excited to be performing at the Bedford River Festival. It's a great opportunity for us to perform locally written and arranged music to a massive audience that might not otherwise get to hear us. Can't wait!"

The Bedford River Festival is free to the public and offers numerous opportunities to participate in, or just to relax and enjoy a vast array of activities and performances across a 105 acre site.

Programmes are now available at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), at No.13 and within borough libraries. For more information visit http://www.bedfordcornexchange.co.uk/
