Summer Flower Displays

Will you spot all the colours of the rainbow?

This year, in commemoration of 2015 being the International Year of Light, Bedford Borough Council’s Parks & Countryside team have focused on how light is reflected through colours and designed a summer flower display which is sure to be unforgettable.

The displays, which will feature along The Embankment, in St. Peter’s Square and outside the Town Hall, are themed around the interpretation of light and the colours of the rainbow. Included in the flower beds will be Dahlias, Geraniums, Marigolds, Asters, grasses and decorative inedible vegetables such as beetroot, kale and fennel to ensure all colours of the rainbow are captured in the displays.

The range of colours, textures and types of flower will capture the imaginations of both residents and visitors alike and provide an eye-catching display the Borough can be proud of.

Councillor Charles Royden, portfolio holder for Transport and Environment for Bedford Borough Council, said “The flower displays, which will last until autumn, show how different colours reflect light and how different plants, such as grasses, let light travel through them.

Flower displays have long been planted along The Embankment for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. I hope everyone takes the time to take in the displays, which are currently being planted and should start to bloom in four weeks’ time.”
