Register to Vote for the EU Referendum
Deadline for registration is 7th June
Residents not yet registered to vote are being urged to go
online and register their details.
On 23rd June voters across the Borough will be able to go to the
polls to vote as part of the referendum on the UK’s membership of
the European Union.
But residents not registered to vote will not be able to
exercise their right to have their say.
Philip Simpkins, Local Returning Officer, said: "I'd urge people
living across the Borough to register online today to have your say
on whether the UK should leave or remain a member of the EU. It
only takes a few minutes and avoids the need to complete paper
The deadline for applying to register to vote in the referendum
is the 7th June.
Anyone who needs to register should go to
www.bedford.gov.uk/register-to-vote today. Those applying will need
to enter some basic information, including their date of birth and
national insurance number. The process takes less than five
British, Irish, Commonwealth and EU citizens over 16 can
register to vote. However, only Great Britain, Irish and
Commonwealth citizens over 18 can vote in the EU referendum.
Residents should also consider whether they will be able to vote
in person. Those who will be unable to go to the polling station
can apply for a postal or proxy vote.
