Summer Reading

2650 Children Already Signed Up for the Summer Reading Challenges

SRC

Bedford Borough Libraries are nearly a month into this year’s Summer Reading Challenges and 2,650 children have joined the challenge already, but there is still time to sign up.

Children are still able to get involved this summer holiday, simply head down to your local library and sign up for free. They’ll receive a special collector’s folder when they join the Summer Reading Challenge and as they borrow and read at least six library books, they can collect six special postcards to complete their folder. After reading six library books children will collect a Summer Reading Challenge certificate; if they read twelve library books they will be rewarded with a pair of amazing rainbow glasses; and by reading a mammoth eighteen library books children will receive a medal!

The Challenge has a new theme each year and this year, it’s The Big Friendly Read, delivered in collaboration with The Roald Dahl Literary Estate to celebrate what would be have been his 100th birthday!

There’s a whole programme of events and activities planned at your local library for families over the summer to celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge.  To find out more about the Summer Reading Challenge and events visit

The Summer Reading Challenge continues in all libraries in Bedford Borough until Saturday 10th September.
