Council Open for Business
Wednesday 17th March
Business leaders in Bedford Borough have been
told: “Bedford Borough Council is open for business”.
Representatives from ten businesses in the
borough were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour this week for a
breakfast meeting with the Mayor and Council Chief Executive,
It’s the first in a series of small and
informal meetings as part of a wider programme of events and
activities, held to help foster closer links between local
businesses and the Council.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said:
“We work extremely hard to attract new businesses into the area but
I firmly believe it is also vital we work with existing businesses
to help them thrive in the borough.
“These small informal meetings will continue
in order that they can talk to us directly and let us know how we
can help them.
“Councils are often seen as a ‘closed shop’ to
businesses. They pay their rates and only deal with them if there
are problems or they’ve submitted a planning application. I hope
this meeting and others in the future with other businesses help us
to develop close working relationships with the people who provide
jobs and prosperity to the borough.”
Stuart Channon, Managing Director of Customer
First Business Solutions, said: “I thought it was an excellent
opportunity for a company like mine to get an idea of the views of
the council. I am very grateful to Dave Hodgson, Philip Simpkins
and others for their time.”
