Launch of Bedford in Bloom 2010

Wednesday 24th March

The multi-award winning team behind Bedford in Bloom will be going on tour this week, to launch their 2010 campaign.

Bedford has achieved excellent results in the RHS Britain in Bloom competition, winning a silver award in 2009. Entry to the national competition is by invitation only based on the results of the regional competition, which for Bedford represents Anglia in Bloom. The town as a whole, as well as individual wards, have won silver and gold awards plus a number of special awards over the last two years.

To kick off this year’s campaign and promote the different parts of the town taking part on Thursday 25th March from 11.15am, members of the team and ‘In Bloom’ supporters will be cycling from Priory Country Park to Golden Gardens in Goldington, finishing up at Mile Road Allotments.

Floral displays play an important part in the contest, but the "Bloom" title is now, perhaps, misleading: in recent years the competition has increasingly assessed how everyone in the local community are involved in looking after their environment.

Bedford joins 65 other cities, towns and villages from across the UK who have made it through to the 2010 finals, with the award ceremony taking place in September.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “In Bloom has been incredibly successful in the last few years not only because of the prizes we have won but because of the way it brings communities together.

“The work done by the In Bloom team across Bedford is something we can all be immensely proud of and I am looking forward to another year of awards and successes for the entire borough.”
