Streetcred's Deadline Approaches

The words ‘there’s nothing to do’, or ‘nowhere to go’ may not be heard coming from young people within the Borough as Bedford Borough Council’s ‘Streetcred’ scheme provides plenty of opportunity for those with a little imagination.

As previously publicised, Streetcred is a fund available to 13 -19 year-olds (up to 24 years-old with disabilities) who live or go to school in Bedford Borough, to apply for money for something to do and/or somewhere to go, and help make life even more interesting for themselves, and others!

For 2010/2011, Bedford Borough has been allocated £160k from Central Government for the Streetcred Panel (made up of young people). In 2009/10 Streetcred funded 21 projects and received an extra £50k of funding from Go East.

Previous Bedford Borough Council Streetcred projects include:

  • A theatre project, for young people with disabilities
  • An African heritage project, for young people in Bedford
  • An Overseas residential trip – a group of young people from Queen’s Park went on an unforgettable cultural overseas visit
  • A Music studio project, in Kempston
  • A Garden project - young people with disabilities worked alongside professional landscape designers to create an ideal outdoor space in which to play and enjoy

If you would like to bring a project into existence, please bear in mind that the deadline for Applications is 4pm, on Thursday 1st April 2010. Applications will be available for download from www.bedford.gov.uk/streetcred along with full guidance notes.  Hard copies can be requested by contacting june.hickman@bedford.gov.uk or by phoning June on 01234 228175.
