PETER PAN NURSERY GOES FROM GOOD TO OUTSTANDING

The Peter Pan Nursery School, in Bedford, is officially outstanding. Ofsted recently carried out an inspection on the nursery, and reported it to be outstanding in all areas.

The inspection took place over 14 – 15 February. ‘Achievement of Pupils’ was judged to be outstanding, as was the ‘Quality of Teaching’, the ‘Behaviour and Safety of Pupils’ and the nursery’s ‘Leadership and Management’.

Cllr David Sawyer, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “This is an absolutely glowing report by Ofsted. To secure top marks in each category is a fantastic achievement and I would like to congratulate everyone involved in securing this result. We are committed to seeing a continued improvement in standards across all phases in Bedford Borough, and this latest news is a richly deserved boost for Peter Pan Nursery School and the community it serves.”

Ofsted noted ‘the progress made in the seven areas of learning for young children is outstanding, because of the exceptional care taken by adults to make learning interesting and ensure it is matched to all children’s exact needs’.

Headteacher, Isabel Davis, said: “We are delighted and over the moon. It’s just what the school deserved. We have lots of dedicated staff and we didn’t just put on a show for two days, we’re building on years and years of exceptional practice.”

Ofsted reported that ‘adults have suitably high expectations of children’s achievement and give them excellent opportunity to master new skills.’

Ofsted also stated that ‘children have excellent attitudes to school and their learning. This is because of the establishment of routines, the consistency of messages given in voice and action by all adults, and the regular celebrations of successes.’

The outstanding status means that a school is highly effective in delivering outcomes that provide exceptionally well for all its pupils’ needs. This ensures that pupils are very well equipped for the next stage of their education, training or employment.
